Safari Overview:

Get out of your safari vehicle and start a bush walk towards one of the most scenic parts of the Tarangire National Park, accompanied by the experienced safari guide and armed wildlife ranger from Tanzania National Parks Authority.
Experience the excitement of encountering and tracking wildlife on foot.

Tours are operated in a manner that won’t disturb the natural field, as such animals remain unaware, and thus unthreatened to human presence. All parties remain safe and can enjoy the adventure among breathtaking scenery.

Delight in rare close-up encounters, coming within 15 metres (50 feet) of zebra, waterbuck, impala, ostrich, and even the giant African elephants. Your guide will share information about animals, their particular behaviors, and tracking skills. Apart from larger wildlife, such as Tarangire’s renowned and high numbers of elephant, you can also interact with various insects and curious birds. You won’t end up this Tarangire walking experience without paying a courtesy visit to wonderful Maasai society and learn their life style.

Mto wa Mbu is situated on the way from Arusha to the national parks in northern Tanzania, just at the foot of the Rift Valley. Located on the way to Ngorongoro and Serengeti, it is an ideal resting place for most safari travelers.

Full Itinerary

Day 1

Nature Guides Safaris representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

After early breakfast in the lodge, with your packed picnic lunch boxes depart for Tarangire National Park about 3 hours drive. On arrival and after completing the park entrance procedures, you will be driven to the ranger post where you will be welcomed by the official park rangers and being taken by the assigned rangers to start your bush walking experience. After picnic lunch, you will continue with your walking tour in the midst of Tarangire National Park until evening when you will be taken n to the booked tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Today you will wake up early and get ready for breakfast at the lodge while preparing for a full day walking expedition in the park. You depart from camp early following game trails past various water holes. You will enjoy exploring the jungle on foot and feel connected with the bush without the noisy and disturbance a vehicle may bring.

You will be walking quietly as you wander through the wilderness and will focus on every detail of wildlife such as animals, birds, insects and different species of plants.

As we know this is a wildlife sanctuary, there is always a chance that we will get closer to  larger animals like elephants and for this reason you will be guided by a  well trained and armed guide from Tanzania National Parks Authority.

After a long walk in the bush you will be heading to the camp for delicious hot lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in the areas surrounding the camp.

In the evening you will have an opportunity to enjoy the cool wild breeze while wondering the sunset in the woodland Tarangire national park horizons.

Day 4

On this day after breakfast at the camp you will start driving to Mto wa mbu from Tarangire while enjoying the game viewing on route. Upon arrival in Mto wa mbu town we will be heading to Balaa Hill where we will climb to the top of the Rift Valley wall for breath-taking views of Lake Manyara, the village of Mto wa Mbu, and the Maasai Steppe beyond.

Also, see a diverse array of local bird species and ancient baobab trees. After picnic lunch we will be heading to Maasai village to visit the Maasai boma and see the lifestyle of this legendary tribe up-close. Along with a guide of the boma and an introduction to the local Maasai population, tribesmen will offer to paint traditional Maasai tattoos for visitors and even let them milk their prized cows.

Here you will have an amazing time to learn a lot about Maasai history, culture and their relation to wildlife and environmental conservation. In late evening you will be driven to your booked tented camp.

Day 5

Wake early, get breakfast at the camp and get ready for a full day cultural experience. We will start with a Maasai market tour (2 – 4 hours). Hundreds of Maasai tribe’s men and women gather each Thursday afternoon at the busting Maasai market, where visitors have the chance to see their crafts and taste their food, including the famous Maasai BBQ (Nyama choma), you may like to enjoy your lunch at the market. A larger, village-wide market occurs on the 22nd of each month.

After lunch you will be transferred start a village walks tour in Mto wa mbu. Get an inside look at the homes and exquisite craft of Mto wa Mbu’s many tribes.

Visitors will get a chance to meet locals and learn about banana beer, Makonde woodcarvings, and the tribal painting techniques; the village provides a great introduction to everyday life in Africa. In the afternoon you will be driven to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6

This is our last day of these 6 days Nature Walking and Cultural Experience. After breakfast at the lodge you will be starting the farm tour where you will have an opportunity to see the innovative farming practices of Mto wa Mbu villagers and learn about the irrigation system that sustains local crops, including the 32 varieties of bananas (1 to 2 hours tour).

After farm tour you will be transferred to Arusha town for overnight or transferred o Kilimanjaro International Airpot to catch up  your flight back home, depending on the flight schedule.
